God's Son A Christian?

Christ Shaping The Faith

Jan 11, 2007

Saying For Today: Affirming Christ as not defined by the Christian faith, it remains more likely Christ will shape the faith, rather than the faith shape Christ.

Story

A Jewish man goes to visit his best friend. He says to his friend, "Seth, I'm really upset. Who would have known!" Seth inquires, "What is it? What can be so wrong?" "My son, my son! He has gone off and become a Christian! On no! What can I do?"

"Oh, my," says Seth, "me too! It happened to me too. My son has gone off and become a Christian! Let's go ask the Rabbi." So they visit the Rabbi. The Rabbi says, "Let's pray to God for guidance." They start to pray. The Rabbi says, "Oh Lord, we open our hearts to you. These two men, their sons have become Christians. What do you say to us?" God spoke: "So your sons have become Christians? I wouldn't be too concerned. It seems to be happening a lot these days. As a matter of fact, the same thing has even happened to me."

Comments

One of the most important things I, a Christian, can remember is: Christ is not a Christian. By not shaping Christ to the image of a faith, I am more truly Christian in thought and life, not less. Affirming Christ as not defined by the Christian faith, it remains more likely Christ will shape the faith, rather than the faith shape Christ.
