Enjoying God as God

Beyond Sense to Immediate Experience

Feb 12, 2007

Saying For Today: This is to experience God as God, not God as sense of God.

Wisdom Saying

God is not hard to find.
In fact, God is impossible to avoid!
There is simply no place where God is not.
God is here.
God is now.

*Deepak Chopra, How to Know God

Comments

Contemplative practice teaches us to enjoy God as God without dependency on a sense of God as other and separate from immediate experience. This is to experience God as God, not God as sense of God.

We forget about God while we are in deep sleep. Is God during deep sleep less in union with you than when you are fully awake?

We can be thankful for times we sense God's Presence as the Other vividly. Yet, it is more important to be present to God as God than to sense a vivid awareness of God.

As we mature spiritually and move beyond conventional religion, we can come to rejoice in a trust and love that allows us to know God as subject to subject. For, yes, "God cannot be avoided."

Suggested Reflection

What is the difference between experiencing a sense of God and experiencing God as God? Who, or What, is God as God?
