A Deep Withness

Dying to Our Own Love

Page 2

This Christ is living, universal, as personal to the Christian as Jesus was to the disciples when He was with them physically. Therefore, in spiritual baptism, signified by water baptism, we can begin to grow to share the affection of Christ Jesus for the world, even our enemies, for we agree to the death of our love~indeed, we come to no longer esteem our love worthy of the full calling of Christ, and we see its full insufficiency~, and we will no more to love with our love, but would will that it be discarded as refuse, so that we can be true enjoyers of the deep withness with others and God that is the vocation of a Christian person.

Suggested Reflection

1. Have you died to your own love? Are you dying to that love? Do we ever, in this life, die to that love fully?

2. Are you experiencing a daily conversion of the heart, so that you can say, "I am coming to know, more and more, the Love of Christ for other persons"?

3. How does baptism signify death to all our natural, independent powers? The resurrection to the capacities of the Image of Christ?
