Subject in Subject

From Looking For to Being THAT

Jun 1, 2007

Saying For Today: God cannot be an object for our sight or intelligence. God is only Subject, I AM.

WISDOM STORY

A Buddhist story tells of a princess who was very vain. She liked to look at herself in the mirror all the time. Her whole sense of self was what she saw in the mirror. One day she could not find the mirror. She ran about crying, “Where is my head?! I can’t find my head! I’ve lost my head! Has anyone seen my head?!” Finally, she was able to feel her head from the inside. The realized, then, that what she sought was crying out for itself. She experienced being the head, not just looking at the head.

WISDOM QUOTE

What which is sought is no different from that which is seeking. The heart that yearns for God is the very heart in which God dwells. St. Augustine’s God says to him, “You would not seek me unless you had already found me.” I have been here all the time, I have never been away. I have been waiting for you to notice. But by the time we realize this, it is no longer clear who is speaking, for the Origin was found at the root of our own inner chamber. God cannot be an object for our sight or intelligence. God is only Subject, I AM. To be united to God means to realize oneself as I AM, to find God’s subjectivity in one’s own subjectivity, to realize that the spirit that one is is the very breath of God in oneself, as oneself. If this suggestion rings a bell of truth with us, then we can encourage those with whom we discuss these things to seek God in themselves, not outside, not as somebody else, not as an object vis-à-vis themselves as subject, but as the Soul of their soul, as Reality open and available to them in subject terms, God as Subject indwelling themselves as subject.

WISDOM POEM ~ THAT IS You, Two

God … Yes I
God … No, Not I
God neither
God both … God I AM!

Words like swirling smoke
Here
Gone
Trust One, Truth, alone

Many tributaries, fine,
One Ocean
Source
Destination~ THAT IS You, two

What does it mean for you to find God’s subjectivity in your subjectivity?
