An Acorn on the Nose

On the Word as Divine Wisdom

Dec 3, 2006

Saying For Today: Inherent Wisdom in the Generated-Generative Word and, therefore, in the Worded vestiges in Nature, is exemplified in the Passion of Christ Jesus as the supremely natural manifestation--for most natural is most holy--of the One.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

*Romans 11.33, ESV

Story: Acorns and Pumpkins

A woman was strolling through a meadow, meditating on nature. She came upon a field of pumpkins. In the corner of the field, stood a majestic, huge oak tree. She sat under the oak tree musing on the odd twists in nature, which put tiny acorns on big branches and large pumpkins on tiny vines. She thought, "God blundered with Creation! He should have put tiny acorns on tiny vines and big pumpkins on huge branches." Getting sleepy, the woman stretched out under the oak tree for a nap. A few minutes after falling asleep, she was awakened by an acorn bouncing off her nose. Chuckling, she rubbed her nose and thought, "Possibly God was right, after all!"

Comments

There is inherent Wisdom in life, and this Wisdom is often not apparent to socialized-common sense. Mystics, universally, have taught us there is a Grand Design, a Providence, an Immaculate Destiny undergirding everyday existence.

For the Christian, she trusts the Eternal Word--Logos--, ... the Reason, Generative Effulgence, Who is the Divine, Unspeakable Wisdom of Immensity: Source of Nature. Nature, being the Image of the Word Itself, is filled with the Good, True, and Beautiful, often under the guise of the Bad, False, and Ugly. Inherent Wisdom in the Generated-Generative Word and, therefore, in the Worded vestiges in Nature, is exemplified in the Passion of Christ Jesus as the supremely natural manifestation--for most natural is most holy--of the One.

So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
