Graceful Inner Operations

Claiming the Gifts of the Spirit

Dec 4, 2007

Saying For Today: Our claiming the inner dispositons of heart is within our power, and our affirming these gifts is our act of reaching out in faith.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in your faith, that by the power of the Holy Spirit, your whole life and outlook may be radiant with hope.

*Romans 5.13 (NTME)

WISDOM SAYING

As we journey in this way of life in faith, we shall run on the path ... our hearts overflowing with the inexpressible delight of love. Prologue ~ Rule of St. Benedict

*Translation and citation from Lonni Collins Pratt, Father Daniel Homan. Benedict's Way.

COMMENTS

We cannot find security in the absence of outer conditions that threaten to diminish inner joy, hope, and peace. The Rule of St. Benedict points us, for example, to godly love as source of "inexpressible delight."

St. Paul speaks of God filling us with "all joy and peace." Then, too, through the power of the Spirit in us, our "whole life may radiant with hope."

Such blessing as referred to by St. Paul and St. Benedict are gifts of God; our role is to claim the gifts. Our claiming the inner dispositons of heart is within our power, and our affirming these gifts is our act of reaching out in faith.

Possibly, at times, it takes very trying outer circumstance to lead us to relinquish our control enough to welcome these graceful inner operations of the inner Spirit of God.
