Where Is God?

A New Year Reading

Jan 2, 2006

Saying For Today: I gasped with wonder, and that moon, hanging in the sky the other night-Well! I could only utter praise of such Beauty.

Where is God?

Tristen, a precious little girl from Queen of Peace Catholic Church, long blond hair, about twelve years of age, stood quietly and served food to the homeless at St. Francis House, S. Main Street, Gainesville, FL. Carl, her dad, a Baptist, in his early forties, looked at me with that funny net he and I had to wear on our heads. He said said that this was their first time at the soup kitchen. Our eyes met and we talked like friends who had always known each other. Carl said, “After she saw so much at Christmas (he sounded a little conscious that Christmas has become a little-too-much-of-stuff), I felt she needed to see the other side of things.” I spoke to Tristen after all had been served, but she was very shy and put her face against her daddy’s leg, looking but glancing, as though wanting to see me but wanting to hide, at the same time. Her father said, “Right now, she is kind of overwhelmed by it all.” I guess she was, for I never heard Tristen say a word the whole two hours.

Where is God?
Tristen might say, now,
“God is in some of the saddest places you’ll ever go to. Those places can leave you speechless with sorrow.”

Where is God?
Yesterday, I looked at the sky. I gasped with wonder, and that moon, hanging in the sky the other night-Well! I could only utter praise of such Beauty. And, the long walk up town and back at night, with my two beautiful dogs smiling and smelling and peeing everywhere, leaving their trail, acting like they can own the whole route to themselves…. And, that cool breeze on my skin.

Where is God?
I say, “God is in the most beautiful sites, experiences, and places of everyday life.”

See, God is everywhere, not just somewhere.
God is in the tears I cry, now, as I write this. Yes, God is here. Now.

But you, for yourself, must answer this most important question:
Where am I willing to be with God?
Or,
Where is God waiting for me to join with Him?

It may not be the
Most comfortable place
The most inviting place
It may be the most challenging place
If it was up to you
You might have chosen it
You might not have chosen it
You may want to run to it
You may want to run from it
You may rejoice in it
You may feel it is breaking your heart
But what is more wonderful,
Regardless
Than the place where God calls you to be with God?
When you let yourself see this Purpose with the
Eyes of Faith
Glory of Hope
Majesty of Love

See,
God will not leave you
God loves you too much
God is Love, and Strength, too
You Trust, He will prove it
With a little effort, you
Will do things you never dreamed you could do
Endure things you never dreamed you could endure
And well up with a Love you never dreamed possible in you
God will meet your needs in ways you could not plan
Surprise you in ways that will leave you amazed
Love you in ways that will warm your heart
Bless you in ways that will astound your intellect

Remember this, as you live through the year ahead…
Where is God?
That is the most important question you can ask,
And it can change your life, in one moment, now,
And all next year, make 2006 the greatest year of your life, thus far.
Trust, my Friend! Trust!
Grace is Sufficient.
So, Where do you say God is?

May you feel close to the Presence of Christ all year 2006!
With Love,
Brian
