All act of true communion arises from the unity already existing among persons in essence. We do not create or find spiritual communion~and there is no other true communion possible but spiritual. There is no way to program communion into existence. Rather, we must submit ourselves to the discipline of becoming persons who spontaneously see with spiritual eyesight. Then we see communion everywhere, and we may grieve at the futile efforts of groups to produce or maintain what they have not themselves chosen to become.
Therefore, the renewal of the Church in the States must be based on an inner acesis of discipline. All other efforts at church renewal or transformation will simply be, at best, short term remedies that provide no substantial, lasting change. And, unless we accept and live the radicalness of the Jesus Way, it is better the church as we have come to know it in America die and be removed, so that the Spirit can birth a Church true to the love of the Christ. Possibly, that is already happening.
