Once a man walked into a national Conference of one of the leading mainline Christian denominations. He walked up to the mike and made a proposal. He said, “I propose that everything in the Bible that does not speak well of human dignity or the nature of God as Love be removed from the Bible. I propose this new, purged translation be published by our main publishing house and this project be completed within twelve months.” Persons were quite upset about the proposal and voted it down unanimously. When it was discovered that the man was actually an angel sent by Jesus, persons asked the angel, “Why did you do that?” “Oh,” replied the angel, “Jesus wants to help you see how you have turned the Bible into an idol. Jesus wants you to see how you value the Scripture above loving your neighbor and God.”
