Wisdom Saying
When stretching and yielding flow together in harmony, willingness is freed, consecration is empowered, love unfettered, fear conquered. The harmony cannot be achieved through willful strategies; it must be allowed to emerge as we are given grace to simplify our presence and cease unnecessary complications.

Suggested Reflection
1. What is the difference between willing effort and willful effort?
2. How do meditation and contemplative prayer embody and teach willingness to put forth graceful, or grace-filled, effort?
3. What are some "willful strategies" that can block the flow of Divine Grace operating in your life?
4. Do you find it easy to let inner harmony emerge within you, or do you tend to try to achieve it?
5. For the emergence of graceful harmony in our lives, May says we need two things: to simplify our presence, cease unnecessary complications. What does May mean by these two practices? How might you further simplify your presence? Are there unnecessary complications in your life (at home, at work, in spiritual practice, in church ...)? How might you simplify those complications?
