A person spoke to me recently about a message a friend got from the Spirit. That message was: Speak only of love.
We have to be emptied out before we can consistently be lovers. However, ironically, Love is not limited by our capacity to love. Love in its purest expression breaks through at times, even before we are cleared for that Love to shine consistently through us. Awareness of those moments of Pure Love encourages us to continue in prayer and surrender. We keep appealing for Grace to empty us more, so we can be loved through more beautifully and graciously.
What is the most effective thing we can do in this Journey of being opened to Love, by Love? Pray. Persons pray for many things. We would be better off ceasing so much praying for things and, rather, pray for God to empty us. Spirit delights in such prayer, and the angels sent to help us do, likewise.
Where is that point of total surrender to Love? That point is not when we are loving freely, which means simply having Love to fill and flow through us. The point of total surrender is the moment that we long only to be a Christ-like lover and admit we cannot. That confession expresses the dissolving of pride and fear. This creates the emptiness allowing a filling of Grace.
There is something powerful in saying, “God, I long to love like you love, but I cannot. Empty me, that I might love more dearly, more truly, and more faithfully.”
Spiritual Exercise
Whom is God challenging you to love, now, with a Love arising from the Love of God for us all? Ask God to help you. Admit that you cannot, alone, love with the Love of God. Confess that you know that both that person and you belong to God, and that you, most deeply, only want his or her joy and peace.
A Prayer Spirit of God, I seek to be emptied of self-will, so You might love through me. I know that in such Love will be joy and peace, as I see others through your eyes and pray for their well-being, apart from my personal wishes for them. In Jesus’ Presence. Amen.
Affirmation God’s Love is, now, freely flowing through me.
