Wisdom Story
One woman says to another, "Poor Maisie really has suffered for what she believes in." "And what does she believe in?" asks the other. "She believes that you can wear a size six shoe on a size nine foot."
*"Human Nature," April 1978.
Comments
Sincerity in belief neither makes the belief right nor wrong. Belief, to be true, cannot violate Reality. There is much absurd religious belief, and appealing to the Bible or to God does not make what is absurd or silly either true or wise. If your belief does not lead to inner freedom, check to see if you are sincerely believing in something ultimately illogical, despite your contestations to the contrary.
Suggested Reflection
Have you ever renounced a religious belief you had sincerely believed to be true? Describe the process.
