An elderly widow, a Christian, limited in activities, was eager to serve others. After praying about it, she realized she could bless others playing the piano. The next day she put a short ad in the Oakland Tribune: "Pianist will play hymns by phone daily for those who are sick and despondent - the service is free." The notice included her phone number.
Persons started calling. She would ask, "What hymn would you like to hear?" Within a few months, her playing had brought cheer to several hundred persons. Many of them freely poured out their hearts to her. She discovered how much of a blessing she could be with a skill she already had.
This woman was a blessing through her gift, for she was available to be a blessing. The key to living as a blessing is not ability but availability.
