He is God. O thou who seekest after the Kingdom! Be hopeful of the favors of thy Lord, and despair not of the severe calamities of this world. Praise God that thou dost have a kind Lord, Who healeth every sick one and showeth compassion to every afflicted one. He is the refuge to the orphan and the helper to those who have no one; infinitely loving is He. Shouldst thou know how kind and tender is the heart of Abduʼl-Baha, so intense would thy joy and gladness be that thou wouldst surely take flight, and thy cry of "Oh, how blessed am I!" would reach the pinnacle of the heavens.
*Prayer by Abdu'l-Baha, head of Baha'i faith 1891-1921. Trans. Adib Masumian

She said, "You speak of the importance of knowing our true selves. How do we come to know it?" The Sage said, "It is one self, not many - the only self. All else is addition. For the self to know itself, then, it is not by addition but subtraction. Remove all you are not, and all you are appears. It appears, but it has never not been present, even before your birth."
