In the 1800’s a visitor from the States visited the famed Polish rabbi Hafez Hayyim. The tourist was amazed that the rabbi’s home was a simple room filled with books and the furniture only a table and a bench. “Rabbi,” asked the tourist,” where is your furniture?” Replied Hafez, “Where is yours?” The tourist said, “Mine? But I’m only a visitor here.” “So am I,” spoke Hafez.
This world is a beautiful place and nothing in itself of all the good creation is to be judged evil. However, we need to remember that creation, as we see it, is the veil of a glory indescribable. If this world is so beautiful as we see it, can you begin to imagine how it must be as we do not see it? Remembering we are pilgrims passing through here, thereby not attaching to the world as we see it, we enjoy this world more and grow into closer relationship with the world as we do not see it, the world hidden by the veil of materiality. That world is already all around us.
