If we husbands want to be respected by our wives, we need to focus not on expecting respect from her but on treating our wife in such a way that she will delight to give the respect.

At the end of time all believers were standing in line waiting to get into heaven. St. Peter showed up. He said, "I want all the husbands to form two lines. One line will be for those who were the spiritual heads of their households. The other will be for the men who were not."
St. Peter continued, "I want all the wives to report to St. Mark." The women left, and the men formed two lines.
The line of men who were dominated by their wives seemed unending. The line of men who were the true head of their household had one man in it.
St. Peter said to the first line, "You were appointed to be the heads of your households. You have not fulfilled your purpose. Of all you men, only one man obeyed. Learn from him."
Then, St. Peter turned to the lone man. He asked, "How did you come to be in this line?" He replied, "My wife told me to stand here."

24Wives should always put their husbands first, as the church puts Christ first.
25A husband should love his wife as much as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it. 26He made the church holy by the power of his word, and he made it pure by washing it with water. 27Christ did this, so that he would have a glorious and holy church, without faults or spots or wrinkles or any other flaws.
